Baseball Round Two

So we got to go back to the stadium, and see the game. It was so much fun, and I got a shirt and a hat. I love my new hat, and I will wear it all the time now... I love it, and I love my shirt, and I got a big cup of lemonade, and it so much fun. I was walking around with a few other students, and we played the staffer selfie game. It's where you try to get a selfie taken with as many staffers as possible... I got like four. It was so much fun, and I'm losing my voice again because we were yelling and having so much fun... All my selfies are with my new hat!!!!

I Knew It

I knew it was Evan. I went down to the front desk after my meeting in the basement, and Evan was there. I told him the wifi was still not working, and he told me the site to go on,  and guess what? It dang well worked!! I still can't get over this. I swear that Evan is controlling the wifi at the dorms... You parents wouldn't wouldn't understand. Its a dorm thing, and everyone thinks it's hilarious.

There is also a joke that I made up all on my own about a few of the IRAs...It's Jordan, Jessica, and Ana. They were all walking together, and I looked at Madison, and I said "hey, look. It's the three staffeteers." Get it, like the three musketeers, but staff instead..... Alicia thought it was funny, and so did all of the staffeteers. I just came up with that on the spot...That was good for me, and I am quite happy with myself.

I wish we had one more week left. I am having so much fun, and I wish I could stay a little bit longer. I have today, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday I am going home. I want to go home, but I also want to stay. It's so bittersweet.

I don't want to say goodbye, but I want to sleep in my own bed, and I want to just sleep in for a few days before school starts.

Still No Wifi

Today has been quite a day. The WiFi doesn't work again at the dorms, and I don't understand why. Is it because of the storm? Or is it because Evan isn't working today? A lot of us say that it's because Evan is not here today. Evan is our favorite guy that works at the front desk. He is cool, and he'll talk about almost anything. No one really talked to him, until Mallory came up to him and told him he has nice hair.. ha ha.... I was there, so I know it's true. But, every time Evan is gone, it seems that everything stops working, including the WiFi. Yesterday it worked extremely well, but Evan was here yesterday. And this morning, it stopped working, which is when Evan left.... It's a joke that we all have here at camp, and I think it's hilarious. So this is why I have been at the library a lot lately. Especially today. Well, I have to go do assignments now.

Today is THE Day

Today is the day. Today is the day that I finally get everything over and done with. Since the Turkish video disappeared, there has been a lot going on. We haven't had any time to redo the video, so today is the day. Today is the day that my new and last elective starts. Today is the day that my video production class. Today is the day that we either weep tears of joy or tears of sorrow that is the last Monday of our GEAR UP camp. Some of us might even do both, which is me. I am so happy that I will be going home on Saturday, but I am so sad, because I have made so many more friends, and I have met so many new people. I have talked to more people this year, instead of staying inside my shell. I have embraced being an ambassador, and I am so greatly proud to be one. I am so happy to be apart of this family, and I am so coming back next year, to finish up my GEAR UP academy as a student. Then I am off to college, and I have my eyes set on UK. I have for years now. I really want to be one of those students that never leaves GEAR UP, just grows up a little bit. I want to be the one that goes all the way through this camp at UK, then go to college at UK, and then become an IRA for the next generation of students that join the family. I want to be in this family, an I know that I am in this family forever, because I can feel it in my heart. I missed UK so much when I got home last year, and I thought that the only reason was because I missed my friends. But I was wrong. When I got the acceptance letter that told me that I got UK for the second year in a row, I was still confused on what my real reason was. And I didn't find out until I got off that bus, and walked up to the front of the dorm building. I found my reason, and I now understand why I missed UK so much this past year. UK is home. UK is my home away from home. I can feel it my heart that UK is where I am supposed to be. I may not have much school spirit, but I know that UK is where I belong. I know this because it feels so normal here. I feel at home here, and I wasn't even shy on the first day, I just jumped in, because it was like I never left, I was just in a different building. UK is my home, and I will continue to come back all three years, and then after I graduate high school, this really will be my home.

So today is the day. Today is the day that I tell you all what I have been meaning to say from day one on campus this summer. Today is a new day, and that is what I have to be thankful for. Today is a new day, so what are you going to change? What are you going to do different today, from what you did yesterday. Today is the day to make changes. Today is the day to do something to throw everyone off. Today is the day to talk to someone you've never said a word to before. Today is the day that you get out there, and just be you. Today is the day to change everyone's mind about what they think about you. Yes, when I got here this year, I did make judgments about others, and I didn't even know them. And I was wrong. I was wrong to judge those people without knowing their story, or even saying hi. I got out there during the first week here, and I talked to people that I had never seen before, I put myself out there, and in that process, I made a few good friends that I hope to keep forever. I found out that I was wrong with most of my judgments, and I am so glad that I got to know the people that I judged before I kept those views of them in my head.

So today is the day to change your views. Today is the day to make a new friend that you'll keep forever. Today is the day to sit with someone that you've never sat with before. Today is the day to put your hair up in a different ponytail or braid. Today is the day to meet someone new, and find common ground. Today is the day to find someone who has the same taste in music that you do. Today is the day to find someone who likes the same food as you. Today is the day to find someone with the same humor level as you. Today is the day to find someone who is irritated by the same things as you. Today is the day to put yourself out there, and meet someone new. Today is the day to do something that you have never done before. Whether it be trying a type of food that you've never tried before, or listening to a song that you've never heard before. Do something new today. Do something different today that makes people question you. Who cares if they question your personality, you are you, and there is nothing they can do to stop. There is nothing you can do to change that either, so you might as well embrace yourself, and just be you. There is only one you out there in this huge world filled will millions and millions of people, so don't try to be someone else. There is already one of them, so why would you want to look like them in the eyes of others. Just be you, and you will find where you're supposed to be, and you will find out who else shares the same interests as you. Trust me, I used to think that I needed to act like the person sitting right next to me, when they are already being themselves. So I learned that there is nobody else on this plant 100% exactly me, and that I need to embrace who I am, and not who someone else is. I am me, and that is all I will ever be. We cannot control anyone else, but we can control ourselves. So embrace yourself and your personality, and get out there and do something new, different, and you, Be you, because that is all the world can ask of you. Today is the day to do something new, scary, and different. Today is that day. Today is the day. So make it worth it.

I found these, and these all mean something..... So listen.

Tour at the Library!

This was so much fun, and I cannot describe in words how cool this was, so I will post pictures, to show how amazing this library is!

Gallery Hop Day

So yesterday, we al went down town, and saw some amazing things. We went to art museums, and we even stopped at Starbucks. Yesterday was so much fun, and I even took selfies with a maniquin, which was hilarious!! Ana and Jessica were there, too, and it was so funny, and so much fun. I wish we could've stayed longer in that museum. The pictures below are from the first museum, and it was so cool.

And I have an update on Turkish: he told us we can redo our video, and can send him the link to the video later sometime. I cannot wait until the dance party tonight, too. It's from nine to eleven, and I am so excited.

I So Do Not Like Turkish Class

Well, this morning I went to export my video that I had edited for Turkish class, and it was gone. All of the videos have disappeared, and they aren't in my photo library either.... I hate this, so now we have to completely redo all of the videos, and I have to edit them again. But, at least I know what I am going to do, though. That is the only good thing about losing all of the videos. I guess I can taste the tea again. It was good the first time, but it was horrible the second, but I don't think we waited as long as we should have for the tea to cook/brew. It was fun, but I really only wanted to do it once. I really don't want to do the video again, and I so hate technology right now. But I still want to get my badge so I can work towards college credit, because I really want to go to college, and I want to make sure that I have room to breathe before I even fill out my college application. I want room to breathe, so I can just worry about my grades, and not my wallet.

Anyways, I will post again, to let you know how it goes with the video. And I would like to give a shout out to all the friends, family, and people who have commented on my blog, and that have taken an interest in my blog, and what I've got to say. Thank you guys for the support. Dr. Diveto, Mom, and Mark..... you guys are great, and I hope you guys continue to read my blog!!! I am actually starting to like blogger a little bit more and more every day, as long as I am on an actual desktop computer.... it doesn't do so much on my iPad, but it still gets the job done.

Okay, well, I will post later to give you all an update on Turkish....

This is the Turkish flag, I found it on Google....

Is Kentucky Unique?

Is Kentucky unique? Maybe you ask yourself that, maybe not, but it would be nice to know more about the state that you call home. Kentucky is our home, and we should consider learning more about our very diverse 'bluegrass state'.  We can learn so much more from our state, just by looking at how it's shaped and where exactly it is located. For example, Kentucky is the 15th state that was added to the United States, and the total area is, 40,409 square miles. 39,669 square miles, which is land, and 740 square miles, which is water. Kentucky is unique in it's very own way, and I myself even learned some interesting things about my home state during my research.  For example, I found out that Kentucky extends about 350 miles, east to west, and a maximum of 175 miles north to south. The reason it says the maximum for north to south, is because of the unique shape of Kentucky. So when thinking about this information, you need to take the shape of the state into consideration.

Now Kentucky is an inland state, so it has other states surrounding it. Kentucky is bordered on the north by Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. Now with Ohio, you have the Ohio River, so you need to also keep in mind that the Ohio River isn't just going one way, and it isn't going in a straight line, either, so you must keep the Ohio River in consideration when looking at the bordering states. Kentucky is also bordered on the northeast end by West Virginia. Now for West Virginia also comes the line that was formed by the Big Sandy and the Tug Fork rivers. They might not seem important, because you have never heard of them before, but they are. They take part in the shape of Kentucky, so they are very important in this case. On the south east side, Kentucky is bordered by Virginia, and on the south side by Tennessee. And in Tennessee, there is Nashville, so you are pretty close to a bigger city, depending on where you are in Kentucky. Now on the west side, our great bluegrass state is bordered by Missouri. There is also an exception to this situation as well. Kentucky and Missouri are separated by the Mississippi River, so it also has a great and good impact on our state's shape.

And because of the double bend in the Mississippi River, about 10 square miles of south west Kentucky is separated from the rest of the state by a narrow strip of Missouri. So, it's almost as if Kentucky has it's own little island, that is not connected to the rest of the state. Now that is something most people don't know about Kentucky. I know I didn't when I started my research.

Now the total boundary length of Kentucky is 1,290 miles, and the eastern quarter of the state is dominated by the Cumberland Plateau, which is on the western border of the Appalachians. There are so many things that we can learn about where we live, and I honestly enjoyed finding out all of this information.

Okay, so the Cumberland Plateau meets the uplands of the Lexington Plain (which is also known as the Bluegrass region) to the north and the hilly Pennyroyal to the south. These two fascinating regions are separated by a narrow curving plain known as the Knobs because of the shape of  its eroded hills. The eroded hills can be caused by a lot of things, not just the loggers. It can come from nature, as well. If a tornado hits and takes out a few trees, every time it rains after that, it gets worse and worse, because there is nothing to hold the dirt and rocks from being washed away.

Yes, Kentucky is very unique, and I believe I have given you plenty of reasons to agree with me. Every state is unique in their own way, but Kentucky is extra special, because we have the determination and the motivation. to learn about how our state came to be, and how the land used to really. We people of Kentucky love to learn about our home, and we cannot, will not, stop learning about our home until the day we die.

(I did NOT get all of this from my brain.... if only. I found all of my information at the site listed below)

(And I did NOT create this picture!! Look below to see where I found it!!)

Cheerleaders And Turkish Class

They're are literally hundreds of cheerleaders all over campus now, and they are eating all of our food. It takes forever to get any food, and they are so rude, and act like brats. The groups all wear the same outfit, and match every single day, and every single one of them, I swear you not, has a bow.... But on the god side, I got my Turkish video done win my group, and once I have it uploaded, I will try to post it on here. I even added a little something that made it so much better. Can't wait to present it tomorrow. But there's another bad thing: I have a ton of words to memorize, and not enough time.... So, which me luck, becaus I need it. Oh, and Dakota broke his wrist, Alisha hurt her knee, Alicia hurt her knee as well, and Mallory has been sick. And Jasmine left today, so our group is down to five..... So sad.... And the returners are getting hit hard with the the issues.... I think we all keep falling down the stairs... Ha ha ha... Not really

I added these to the beginning and the end of the Turkish video... Can't wait to present!!!

Another Long Day

I am so tired from all he stuff we've been doing. Plus, I've  been having issues with canvas and google drive, and it's just making me want to cry!! I am so tired of technology not working, and I am just so done with turn in section on canvas. Why can't I just show the pictures tomorrow? Why do I have to upload them to google drive??? Well, Turkish is so hard, and I have to memorize so many words by tomorrow, and I am so freaked out, and I want to get my badge, but I don't want to do turkish anymore... It is so hard in there, and I am just so tired of all the homework on canvas all the time. I just want to get all my stuff done. I really do, but I can't do anything else on my to do list right now, because I have to do a five minute video about Turkish tea!!!!! I really don't want to do it, but I thought it would be fun to do, and I thought it'd be better than dancing. But it's not, and I am just so glad that tomorrow is the last in Turkish class. And next week I have video production, and I can't wait. Plus, I'm going swimming this weekend, two days in a row.

Turkish Class!!

Okay, so it wasn't what I thought it was going to be. In fact, it's a little hard to do, and he speaks so fast, and he is so good at his own language, I guess he forgets that we can't just pick it up that fast. But that is okay. I'm going to figure something out on Google, for a translator..... Ha ha. I usually don't use that kind of stuff for classes and what not, but I am so dang lost in there, it's not even funny. And it didn't help that I was late, because Omari said he wanted me to do an interview with some camera crew, and then I didn't even do it, so I was about 20 minutes late to class, because of Omari. And you can tell him he's in my blog, too.... I'll get more viewers that way... Well, that's my blog for the day.

Ecuador Exchange

I know this is my second post for today, but I have got to post about this now, before I forget everything. We had people from Ecuador come see us, and a couple of my friends and I helped them with some of their English, and we were talking to them, and we had so much fun. I'd love for them to come nap back and teach us more about their country spans culture. This was year another amazing time today. If you to know what he other awesome time was, check out my last blog post 'Steam Academy'. I had so much fun today.

Steam Academy

It was so much fun painting at the Steam academy, and I really wish we had it every weekend. I loved it, and they were so happy with what we got all done in the library and all over the school. We were playing music, singing, talking, and we were all social with each other, and I think it was a great bonding time for the ones I was with. It was so much fun, and I hope the students at that school like what we did for them. We also gave them our painting supplies, so they could have more fun and do more stuff on their walls and lockers. These pictures are of the walls I painted (moslty) by myself. It was so much fun!!! I loved it!!!

Sushi and Baseball

Well, in Japanese class, we had to present our prezi to the class about our topic of choice, and it was pretty fun. I'm going to start using prezi a lot more to do my school presentations. It's so much easier than PowerPoint.

After dinner, we went to the Lexington Legends baseball game, and it was so much fun. We danced to songs, and we all had fun, and we were all more social with each other. But, sadly the game was postponed because of weather. It was really rainy, and the field wasn't ready just yet. But we still had the firework show, and it was so amazing. The glasses they gave us made it look so amazing. They were like 3D glasses, but they actually worked. It was amazing.

Overall, it was a very great day for hanging out with my friends here at camp.

Japanese Class

I had so much fun today in Japanese class. We all got our names in Japanese, and we got to write them with our paintbrushes that she gave us. We also played jeopardy. It was pretty hard, but it was still so much fun. The TA also wrote my name in Russian, because she took Russian, and is a senior here at UK. I like Russian, and I want to learn it. But, Japanese is really fun too. Plus, I know some stuff about it. I have a presentation due tomorrow, so I will have to work on that in the library tonight. Can't wait for tomorrow. We are all going to a baseball game!!!! Yay!!!

The Toyota Field Trip

I am so happy that I got to go to the Toyota manufacturing factory again this year. It was so much fun last year, and it was even better this year, because I had more friends this year. The picture that I put up here isn't of the cars, because we weren't allowed to take any technology or really anything in there. They do that, because they don't want to take the risk of having someone take pictures of the processes going on in the factory/plant. It was so cool.

The Johnson Center!!

So happy that I got to go to the Johnson Center, and see all the cool active things they have there. It was so much fun. My favorite part was the rock climbing wall. Even though I didn't climb on it, I still watched the others do it, and I really just loved the colors and creativity of the wall.
The rock climbing wall at the Johnson Center, which is where a lot of the active stuff happens on campus.
